Radiator cooling fan would not shut off - commonly occurs in older Volvos due to internal short in controller (silver part in photo of assembly.). IF YOU DISCONNECT THE BLUE SIGNAL WIRE (HAS ITS OWN CONNECTOR) AND THE FAN STILL RUNS, that is the problem. Unfortunately the fix is to replace the entire assembly. Easy to pull old unit - 2 bolts 10 mm and a few zip ties - and slip in new one. Don’t bother trying to open the control unit and find/fix the short - I tried and could not find an obvious fault. It may be possible to remove the controller and wire in a relay on the ground side to close when ignition on. Then the fan would run whenever vehicle is running.
