I had very specific needs for my ceiling fan and this met them perfectly. I wanted tunable color temperatures, and the ability to easily control the fan via a wall switch with speed adjustments. Most modern fans have a wireless remote which is not trivial to bypass, and many have built-in LED light fixtures that are set to a specific color temperature. In terms of its electronics, this is a very traditional fan, with pull-cord controls, but it works well with a wall-mounted speed adjustment switch too. That was exactly what I wanted but it may not be the right choice if you're looking for something with modern features like a wireless remote.This fan is very low-profile as far as fans with a downrod go, but is still just barely workable in a room with 8-foot ceilings. At a height of just over 6 feet, the bottom of the light is just slightly above my head. The pull cords do hang down enough that a 6-foot-tall person will hit them if it's an 8-foot tall room. That said, a good pair of bolt cutters can trim them down to a shorter length if needed. I had wall switches so I didn't need the pull chains. There is a "low profile" version, but it is only a fraction of an inch shorter than this one is when using the shorter downrod, and the downrod allows for better vibration dampening and, in my opinion, looks better. So even with 8-foot ceilings I recommend the downrod version.The fan blades are reversible - I don't recall seeing this mentioned in the item description. You have a lighter grayish color and a more traditional brown. Both look good and the flexibility is appreciated in case I ever paint the room a different color. The light kit takes two bulbs, which has its pros and cons. The need to accommodate bulbs means it isn't as compact as some similar models, but it gives the flexibility to alter the brightness and color temperature of the light cheaply and easily. One thing to note, the two light sockets are only rated for 24 watts. This means that you absolutely cannot use incandescent or halogen bulbs in this lamp, but LED or CFL bulbs work great, even if you want brighter 100 watt equivalents. It does work well with a dimmer or with a fan controller that allows for speed adjustment and it does not have any noticeable hum at any speeds.The only downside is the installation. It's not clearly labeled which of the hot wires is the fan and which is the light. We had to just guess. The mounting bracket also doesn't provide a way to hang the lamp while making electrical connections, so it's really a two-person job: One to hold it up near the ceiling and one to do the wiring. Assuming you have someone to hold it, the installation is really no different than any other fan.Overall, this is a great fan if you want something that wires up in a very traditional way (perhaps due to personal preference or perhaps to replace an existing fan with wall controls) but with a modern look. It works well, looks good, and performs exactly as you need it to.
