Got the mystery thermometer in coolant light and had to go to the manual to find that it was an efan error. Got this as a replacement since MBZ discontinued them and it is OEM quality. Installed in about 90 minutes without having to lift the car. Everything was reachable from the top, including the 2 bottom clips. Works great, runs true and is silent. Very happy and saved a lot of $$$ vs going to my local Benz mechanic for the replacement. For instructions you can get them from Mercedes driver forums (the one I browse had the Star service instructions dealers use and it was easy peasy).
