I've had this fan for 8 years. It sits in my basement (drop ceiling) and pushes air up to the 3rd story bedroom that is the furthest from the furnace. (A main floor remodel that restricted some upstairs vents added to the flow problem) What a difference it makes, especially in the summer! It sits right above my wife's craft area, where she spends a vast amount of time. Yes, you can hear it, but it's not much louder than the noise coming from the vents in the rest of the house. If it was annoying, I could insulate around it.I ran power from the furnace circuit board, that energizes whenever the fan runs, to an outlet mounted next to the fan. Because the ceiling is open, I'm able to drop the speed in the winter to low. (I recommend mounting this fan in a somewhat accessible area anyway.)Expensive? Yes. Installing this baby was not easy, and I've been doing HVAC side jobs for over 25 years. I don't want to get something that needs replaced after a few years. I like this fan so much, I've recommended it to several friends, and installed it in my kid's house.
