After 24 years of suffering the clackety racket of the Masterflow shutters that came with our Masterflow whole house fan, the infernal contraption finally just started falling apart when I tried to clean it. This left me with the dilemma of whether to spend a lot of effort to fix the thing or just find a replacement. Web searches couldn't find an exact replacement, but Amazon and other websites were littered with many Dayton shutter options. Dayton's webbsite and product descriptions are frustratingly vague on what is the difference between the economy and premium categories of shutters. As far as I can tell, the economy shutters are designed to handle up to 1500 FPM (feet per minute) of air speed. The premium line is rated for 2250 FPM. Nowhere, of course on the product info for my Masterflow 30 inch fan is there any indication of how many FPM it can produce. Nonetheless, I took a chance on Dayton given the many good reviews, and bought this shutter. It is far better and sturdier than my original, although I did have to modify the opening that I had in the ceiling for the original shutter that came with the 30" whole house fan. But it is quite lot quieter and more sturdy. It also closes quieter when shutting the fan off. All around worth wile upgrade. Highly recommended.
