I was relieved when I finally pulled the lever on this purchase. Beautiful color combination, tough exterior, and the correct sizing for the overhead bins--plus I was finally finished hunting for a good, reliable carry-on luggage combination. I literally spent two days scouring the reviews, checking the prices, etc. Yes, relieved. I don't know that my situation is like anyone else's, but I haven't flown in over a decade and had given away all of my travel luggage. I wanted a hard-side carry-on, but I also wanted a "personal item" that would fit under the seat in front of me. Plus, I needed it to fit current US airline carry-on dimensions. (I soon learned, after beginning to evaluate luggage on Amazon, that this critical feature is slicker than a greasy pig.) However, this attractive trio really caught my attention: Great color combination, apparently true airline size dimensions, and there was a really nice backpack in the combination. I also appreciated many honest, positive reviews. How did it fare?I was spending two weeks with my youngest daughter and her husband on the Big Island in Hawaii. I was going from Florida to Atlanta to LAX and then to Kona. That's a long flight. When I got the bags, I checked the dimensions first. The carry-on concerned me because, while the stated dimensions appear to be exact (22x14x9), the side bottom has 4 small legs that easily add a half-inch to the side, or a full inch if we include the combination lock and side handle in those dimensions (making it 15 inches instead of 14). I sweated over that, but then finally decided to keep the package. In practice, I discovered that this carry-on easily fit all the overhead bins on three separate Delta flights and three separate American Airlines flights. No hangups whatsoever. My bag was gate checked once because of lack of overhead bin space, but it was returned to me without a single scratch.I was able to fit two weeks' worth of clothing and appurtenances in the carry-on and in the really clever (and good-looking backpack). The carry-on opens like a clam shell and I stuffed that clam until I had to sit on it to close it. Still, it zipped up nicely and stayed together without trouble--both going and coming. The combination lock worked well, although I did use a twist tie to hold the two zipper sliders together, just in case. The wheels performed flawlessly, zooming nicely over the airport surfaces without any sluggishness. The telescoping handle was smooth opening and closing, and seemed very durable (and in practice it was). Once in a while, I would have to pull the carry-on behind me over large bumps or crevasses, but otherwise I kept it upright and just pushed it along with the backpack sitting on top (it has a convenient strap in the back that slides over the telescoping handle). The backpack also holds a lot, with several zipper compartments for discrete storage, plus it also features a standard USB Type-A connector with an interior cord to plug into your favorite power bank. That was a nice extra. All in all, I am very happy with this luggage trio. After two weeks, two airlines, six planes, and some really rough handling along the way, including lots of packing and stuffing, it still looks like new. I'm looking forward to my next trip!
