This system isn’t anything special. It’s a pump, fan, cardboard pads, and a lot of plastic. Its simplicity is to its benefit. How do you take it apart well just unscrew 8 screws on the back and the whole back comes off. The ability to take it apart so easily is huge when it comes to long term maintenance. These machines are constantly filled with water and even with a antibacteristatic things will get weird with any still water. So unscrew the water release on the back empty it out and open the back and get some soap and scrub it down. Trust me it takes 5 minutes of actual scrubbing and I’ve only had to do it once. The more awkward part is getting the soap water out. I placed the unit on a chair so it could release the soapy water into a mop bucket. The machine isn’t perfect. It’s remote uses some weird protocol for the IR communication. A remote that doesn’t send data but just static commands should use a common protocol so anyone can spoof it when the remote breaks. Definitely a niche opinion but since this machine has NO temperature or humidity settings just on or off it means you can’t add that feature yourself. The machine definitely accumulates dirt inside of it. Any dust or sand in the air will get trapped inside the machine (air with dust comes in hits water gets too heavy and sinks). Perhaps the best part is if anything breaks by in large it uses common parts so you could just look up the part and replace it. Value wise it was the best when I got it. 15ish gallons for the ~$220 ish I bought it for is great. Trust me it outputs probably 25-30 gallons of water a day but it all depends on the fan speed and how dry it is where you live. It can easily humidity a whole home. I live in a desert desert I’m talking tumbleweeds, sand, spiky lizards, rain in only certain parts of the year desert. It humidifies the whole house with ease infact it over humidifies even on low (which is why I tried to decode the remote to make my own on off switch). Sadly the unit doesn’t turn coooling on whenever you turn it on (likely to prevent pump from running dry) so you will have to turn it on and off manually. It cools fairly well as well but to call it a swamp cooler is a stretch. Swamp coolers work by humidifying and cooling air which is then pushed into the house (it’s why it’s always said to have windows cracked when you have a swamp cooler). This unit just humidify and cools the standing air thus it will cool till it’s too humid to have impact. That being said it works best as a cooling assistant. We have AC but part of the house gets warmer than the other even after tweaking the ac vents. Throw in a gaming computer or console and you have a hot room in the after noon. With this unit that’s no longer the case. My room is the coldest part of the house which is exactly why I bought this. The system has wheels so you can relatively easily move it around the house just be slow as to prevent sloshing of the water. Smell wise it’s also perfectly fine. As long as you make sure to empty out the water every once in a awhile. Im pleased with this system just make sure you understand it’s not an AC it will cool but you can’t set a temperature and forget. It won’t cool as well and it only really works on dry days and in extremely dry areas. If you don’t have sand in your back yard look for a different product.
