As a range hood, this fan works fairly well. I like to use a portable smoker with a cloche to quickly smoke cheese and nuts and have been smoking foods on the cooktop to use the range hood. Balancing everything has always been a challenge. With this portable hood, it is easier to set up everything on the counter. The fan has sufficient power even at the lowest setting. It does produce some noise but is not excessive and quieter than the full range hood. Two things that could be improved: 1. it is top heavy and can tip over and 2. it requires a power outlet nearby. I connected a rechargeable Black and Decker 20V battery to it and think that could fix both issues by adding weight and eliminating the power cord. The 20V battery works and I don't notice much difference from the 24V power adapter.
