We've had two previous DeLonghi heaters that have worked well each winter since 2008 so we decided to get another. The TCH7690ER seems to be working out well. Couple of modest changes. The previous models would turn themselves off as soon as they lost contact with the floor. The present really has to be tipped over before it shuts itself off. That's an advantage if you want to adjust its position without having to turn it off and on again. The newer model has a nice illuminated display that's always on by default but it only shows the temperature limit. I liked the older models would show the current temperature of the input air, so you knew how cold the room was, but the LCD display would go out after a short time, making it hard to read. Once the unit is turned on and set, it remembers its settings and turns on again to the same ones. But if you unplug it, you have to go through the fan-only, then the freeze protection mode before you reach the first heat mode. I guess that's supposed to be protection against your kid turning it on when the device is sitting right next to the drapes. The handle is a little shallow, too, so you have to be careful when carrying the device not to thoughtlessly lose your grip. But all-in-all, a very attractive, relatively quiet heater that, if it proves to be as reliable as its predecessors, will be a great bargain, too (they're still running strong after the 7 years). Did think as another reviewer remarked that DeLonghi could have provided more detailed instructions for the minor assembly involved in putting on the base. There is no heads-up about making sure to put the cord under the cord hook in the base and I just happened to notice the advisability of doing so during assembly. Makes sense, though, to ship unit with base off for compactness and avoiding breakage. Minor quibble about a product I'm otherwise thoroughly satisfied with.
