Bought to provide evaporative cooling for a small greenhouse. It's a simple design without fancy electronics or anything likely to burn out in a humid environment. The simple, mechanical design makes it perfect for plugging into a timer or other, external control system.The unit is also small and lightweight so it's easy to move around. The hose hookup for the water reservoir is convenient for extended use. The fan is adequate for its size, but not anything particularly special.The ice packs it comes with aren't particularly useful. They're a cute itea, but there's simply not enough thermal mass to them to make that much difference for any length of time. It's simpler and easier to just dump a bucket of ice in the hopper if you happen to want more cooling than evaporation alone can provide.Even then, don't expect too much. When you see the number of "tons" an air-conditioner is rated at, it's talking about the literal number of tons of ice you'd need to match that much cooling per day in an evaporative unit like this... So that should give you some idea of how much ice you'd need to feed it if you want AC-level cooling from it... When things are really hot and dry though, it'll easily shave a few degrees off the temperature of a small space, and sometimes that's all you need.
