Hunter Fan Company 51315 Aerodyne 52-Inch Indoor/Outdoor Ceiling Fan with LED Light Kit, Matte Silver Finish - Perfect for Living Room, Bedroom, Patio and Covered Porch

I rarely write reviews anymore so pay attention when I do.I’ve purchased two of these fans the past few weeks. The first install went smoothly in the bedroom. Easy to install and follow instructions and easy to wire and I used only HomeKit to connect to my network - not the Hunter app.I did have someone to help with the first install but not the second install.I was replacing two 20 year old+ fans with two switch converting to a single wall switch controlling the power. I haven’t installed a fan before so it took a few hours to take down the old one and install the new one for both installs.The second fan was not so easy as you’ll see below and the wiring was a slightly different.Caveat - if you purchase more than one of these when you setup Alexa/HomeKit etc. you must turn off other fans in your house. This is mentioned in the instructions somewhere and online. This was something that I missed and took me a while to figure out why it was not connecting to the HomeKit.The second issue is the second fan light did not turn on at all. I went back and forth with wiring initially ensuring I had the correct wiring which I did.Then I went with Hunter via email to resolve the issue which took roughly two weeks in total. First we replaced the light kit -not the issue- then we replaced the entire fan through hunter and I reinstalled everything again.No charge at all from Hunter and I had to return the defective fan entirely free of charge.After the full replacement everything worked fine until they both were no longer seen on the network this week.I read other reviews and decided to forced them on the 2.4 gz network today by adjusting a configuration in my router. Only Time will tell if these stay online and working.It’s a good looking fan with good features at this price point however there are definitely some reliability concerns.Edit 9/5/2022It’s been about a week. The fans are no longer on the network.I’ve setup IP address reservations and verified I’m using compatible WiFi encryption however they were dropped again after 24 hours.I’m continuing to try additional options to figure out why they are dropped.Edit 9/9/2022So it’s been another week. I downloaded the Hunter simple connect app, perused the horrible UI and somehow the firmware automatically updated to version 1.10.41 and this version seems stable and consistently connected to my home network. I did remove the IP reservation config but kept the setting to force them on the 2.4 ghz network.I’m bumping up one star for nowHopefully this will be the last update.I’ve purchased 4 of these fans for a home I recently moved into and I’m planning to purchase a 5th soon. I paid to have them installed so I cannot speak on ease of installation. One of the 4 fans from my initial purchase had a light that was not working. I returned and received a new one without any trouble at all. The fans are easy to use, the fan speed options are great and they are very quiet fans. I’ve enjoyed them. I’ve purchased other brands in the past and have not been happy with the performance. Hunter has not let me down! Also, the fan is very nice to look at. It’s modern but not too modern. The matte black goes perfectly in my home.There does not appear to be any way of disabling the smart function, so I'd operating by a switch, instead of the remote, any time you turn the switch on, the light blinks like it's in some sort of setup mode. All in all it works well the light is perfect color and intensity and the fan blows a lot of air and does so quietly.Fan works great! Easy to install, remote works great and was quick to setup with Home Assistant via Homekit. The app itself from Hunter kinda sucks and took a few attempts to connect. But since I've got it connected to Home Assistant I don't need to mess with the app anymore. I do find it a bit large for the smallish bedroom I'm using as an office, but that's my own fault for not measuring.Also very quiet. Moves a ton of air!Actually moves air, unlike the cheap one that was installed by the contractors. Easy to install and it works great with Alexa! Very happy with my purchase of this fan.Install was easy as any fan with the exception of attaching the blades. The angled mount and black hiding the screw holes is like a rodeo. Make sure you point a light up in there. An extra pair of hands would really help.The app is abysmal. But I just used it once to set up Alexa. Then it works perfectly from there. I think the folks with issues have 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi problems. I have 2 Unifi APs that default IoT devices to 2.4 GHz anyway.The weird thing I notice is that when the house is quiet you hear the motor kick on and off as it spins. I imagine that’s digital speed control vs voltage regulation, but I may be wrong. I have very sensitive hearing. I use a rain sound thing to sleep anyway and it completely masks it.It looks nice, control of light level, fan speed, etc via Alexa is perfect. Some issues, so 4 vs 5 stars, but a solid fan for the price.My electrician took less than 15 minutes to install the ceiling fan and fan is so quiet and I love the remote. I’m going to buy another another one because it is beautiful, sleek and the color matches my floors.Looks good, works great. Voice control via Amazon Echo works well. Would have rated it 5 stars, but setup (with Echo) was tricky due to poor setup instructions. The manufacturer needs to improve the enclosed setup instructions. After installation it took me till the following day to figure things out via the poorly organized website. Great fan, but the manufacturer has not put the effort into the documentation.The app is not perfect, but HomeKit sure is. If you use Apple then this fan is quite the catch at a rather crazy price for how great it is. The fan is ridiculously quiet for the jet thrust power it kicks out. Of note: it is a larger fan wingspan suited to decent sized rooms. The remote is great with only a couple buttons, so fumbling in the dark you can find the light right away. I got a returned one (for a wonderful discount) and it came repacked well with all hardware new to ensure no missing pieces (thank you Hunter). All in all, the app crashes occasionally, but if you use HomeKit this doesn’t affect anything at all.This is a great fan which I chose specifically for the Alexa connectivity. The app is an embarrassment. Connecting is not intuitive or easy and drops you back at square one every time there is a power failure. If you don’t care about smart, buy this fan. Otherwise look somewhere else and read the reviews.The fan speeds and lighting can be controlled via Alexa. The remote comes in handy when you don't want to use the wake word. Lights are supplied in the pack and they are bright enough to light up the whole room. I found the price to be better than a box store.Really nice fan Hunter quality is really good fan works great with Apple’s HomeKit would highly recommend easy to assemble very quiet comes with everything you need I really like the Hunter simple connect.
