I ordered this robe as a faculty member who must attend graduation ceremonies. My previous employer provided gowns, but they were thin and had only black velvet (and crushed velvet at that!).This gown is made of decent material that is sturdy but not extremely heavy (important so that you don't swelter while wearing this over your outfit). The velvet is very nice and smooth and exactly the right royal blue color. The gold piping is a nice touch to really set off the velvet from the background.I am a slender 5'5" (165cm) woman, and this fits exactly as expected. It billows, but that's what graduation gowns do. It's the correct length, and the sleeves also fit well.I have at least 9 more ceremonies to attend before retiring, and PhD gown rental (for really cheesy gowns) is $35 a pop. I will more than get my money's worth out of this, AND I can rent it to other faculty or to students for less than what the bookstore will charge them.
