This fan is a beast and now I have control of the temp of this 400hp Chevy 350. I knew Spal did not recommend this Extreme Fan for the daily driver. Fine, my truck is a weekend play toy. Here’s what I did to make it work. I had already bought a aluminum radiator with a electric fan and shroud. It was running it continuous with no sensors or relay. The problem was that the fan was cheap and did not pull enough cfm (1700) and that was advertised! Beware of false advertising. Get the Spal. Anyway, I replace the fan with this Spal fan. I also switch my thermostat to 160. Well, it worked perfect. I also used the 195 on 175 off relay kit. So when I was running the fan never came on because the truck ran from 185-190. When I slowed down the temp started to rise and the Spal fan kicked it. After about 2 min the fan turned off and the engine was back at one 180. Sweet. So now the fan only runs when necessary. The trick was the 160 degree thermostat. Using the 180 worked but once the fan turned on it would never turn off. On to my next project.
