They hold there edge well, Sharpener works good, The scissors has a "return to open" spring that automatedly opens them back up and holds well in your hands. That's why it has a latch on the end. We have a black block and looks great on our counter. I do wish that the manufacture would 1, Angle the block down slightly so the knifes were more forward to make it easier to get the large knifes in and out. We have to set the block out a little from under our top cupboards to pull them out. But we had the same problem with brands.
