Something You Should Know Before Purchase. VERY IMP0RTANT !!! Can NOT turn on fireplace? Check your pilot fire and thermopile first. All models are NOT power supply. They do NOT output voltage or current to gas valve. They only process the millivolt voltage generating from thermopile if the pilot fire is on. Therefore, you can NOT turn on the fireplace fire / gas if the pilot fire is OFF or the thermopile is out of operation (no millivolt voltage generated when heated). This is a safety protection from gas leakage. Please check before return. Shut off the pilot fire, gas supply, wall switch, and any power if your house is unattended for long time. Do they fit my fireplace? How to tell? To find a remote control that is compatible with your gas fireplace, the first thing you'll need to find is what type of gas valve your fireplace uses. This information can be found most easily in your fireplace installation & operation manual, the relevant information is usually located under the "Wiring Diagram". If you don't have your fireplace owner's manual, you can also find the model # on the rating plate located somewhere inside / behind your fireplace, and search online with words "model # + manual". You can also identify the valve type by taking a look at it directly in your fireplace. Our remote control models are all compatible with Millivolt valve, which has TH, TH/TP terminals for connection. I purchased the SH400 WiFi versionWhy I purchased: not that you may care but it helps in understanding my selection :). My gas fireplace had an existing remote. Battery operated and it began to fail causing the flame to go out within a few minutes. I have slowly turned the house into a smart home (which is a blessing and a curse especially when my wife ends up fighting with Alexa to turn something on!). Anyway this unit looked like it would do what I wanted - turn the fireplace on and off with Alexa. What’s in the box: Not sure why but I was expecting a large box for this unit - nope - it’s a relatively small box. About a third of a shoe box. Inside is a wiring harness for all fireplace controls, the power supply cord for the controller and a 120v splitter in case you only have one outlet under the fireplace. They also send a manual - but really I did not need it and will explain below.Installing: Note - my fireplace had a 2 outlet receptacle so I did not use the 120v splitter, also it had an existing remote and a blower. First without connecting anything I plugged in the power to the controller (not the AC plug), opened my smart life app and pushed the main power button on the controller. My smart life app immediately recognized the unit and began the addition process - I just followed the prompts on the app and voila, fireplace was added. All leads coming from the controller are clearly labeled where they go and give very clear instructions on how to connect. So my first connection was the signal wires for the gas controller. This was easy because I had the leads from my old remote. Just connected them to the labeled controller wires opened the smart life app clicked on fireplace hit the power and then increased the temp and poof! FIRE. Excellent. Now to figure out how to get the fan hooked up.At this point I DID NOT CONNECT the 110v wire as I was not sure if the controller leads would then have 110v (shock hazard). Rather than try to squeeze my pudgy hands into the back of the fireplace to reach the power leads to the blower, I simply purchase a female end of a 110v plug (Amazon for less than $4). I wired the controller wires to the female plug (yes I had to cut the ends off of the 3 controller wires) and then plugged the blower cord into it. NOW I plugged the 120v plug from the controller into the outlet. Back to the app, power on, temp up and poof! FIRE and WIND! The blower was now on. I also have a fan knob on my fireplace and I placed that on ‘Hi’ because the controller will now regulate the speed. Setting your manual knob any lower than the highest setting will limit the controllers ability to control the fan.The controller also comes with a temperature sensor and I simply ran the wire on the outside of the fireplace and mounted to the side trim. Wire is hidden by the trim and the sensor is small enough that it is not noticeable. This does not come with a separate remote, you use the app for that. The App: Most of our smart devices are on Smart life and the applications are very intuitive. The fireplace app has a large temp dial in the center of the screen that you just rotate to the desired temp. You can program it via a schedule set the +/- temp swings to control the room temp, set to C or F, if you click on the C/F you can also access the blower speeds. Very simple and intuitive. I did rename the device in the app to just ‘fireplace’ as the installed device name was something like ‘superkalafragalisticexpialodocious’.Alexa: our Smart Life skill is enabled on Alexa so as soon as the fireplace was connected in the Smart Life app Alexa recognized it and connected it in the device list. My wife likes to have the fireplace on in the morning as she has her tea and reads so I set up a routine in Alexa. My wife says ‘Alexa, fireplace on” and the routine turns the unit on and temp to 75. ‘Alexa, fireplace off’ turns the unit on and temp to 60, this way the unit is on and monitoring the room for the ambient temp. If it drops below 60F then it will turn on and heat the room to 60.Note that if you turn the main power off the unit is off and not monitoring the ambient temp.Alexa can not control the blower speed (at least from what I have seen so far) but if you set the fan speed to auto in the app and do not turn the main power off then it should be good to go - I am monitoring that now. If you turn the main power off it seems to reset the speed to low.Obviously this unit relies on WiFi and 120v power so if the power goes out and you want the fireplace to kick on (without blower obviously) you would still have to wire a mechanical thermostat and set it somewhere lower than your lowest temp that you have in the app. I have mine set for 50F, this way the app controls to 60f and above and if we are not home and the power goes out and then drops below 50 the mechanical (ie no power required) thermostat keeps the house above freezing.Hope this helpsEnjoy
