It was easy enough to install (two people) if you are handy and shut off the power to the installation before installing. Very quiet and attractive.I was looking for a traditional pull chain fan with no lights (the rooms have cans). For whatever reason, those apparently are hard to find now. Everything is LED embedded, voice activated, requires a remote control, or has other random pointless features. I just needed a basic quiet fan without lights. This comes with a cap so you can toss the light kit. It has a traditional three speed motor so you can use the pull chain or commonly available third party wall dimmers. It’s silent on any speed and Hunter has improved the mounting kit making the install very easy. No more hook thing…there’s a ball and socket bracket. I used the (also included) shorter 2” rod that makes this effectively a flush mount and still had plenty of room to wire up before closing up the cover. I bought three more to replace the bedroom fans. Blades are reversible as well. This is my third Hunter fan. I bought it for our guest bedroom which we use as child-room. That room had no light and was getting pretty hot for a few months in the summer so buying this was a solution that addressed both issues. My room is 110 square feet with the longest side being 12.5 feet. According to several external websites (with slightly different recommendations) A room at this size should have 40-44 inch fan and thus I chose this model. I have had it for a week and have been pretty happy with my purchase so far.First of all, it is extremely quite. The installers were not sure about it since the connection between blades and the part they attach to felt a little loose to them, but surprisingly it neither wobbled nor made any sound even in the highest setting.Secondly: It offers versatility. You can change the blades and transform a white fan to a light brownish color one depending on your room style and liking. It looks pretty stylish in both ways.Thirdly: It consumes pretty little energy: 57 watts in the highest settings with the lights off. It is 3 watts less than the more expensive model (53081). However that model generates better airflow (4461 cubic feet/ minute compared to 3361 cfm of this unit) For those, who want something that they can comfortably use while sleeping without getting cold, that airflow is pretty adequate to me. The lowest setting is barely recognizable and yet may be found insufficient but the medium and high settings are pretty ok for a room as big as mine (110sq feet). Finally it is quite a cheap product offering good value for money. The 53081 model which offers slightly better airflow by consuming slightly higher electricity is sold at $110 while this one is sold at $74. I don't think the difference is worth paying so I am happy with this model. However although I mostly enjoy this item there are a few drawbacks which I would like to underlie to help potential customers:This model can not be flush mount to the ceiling. It comes with various different lengths of extension pieces and although so far I feel no sound or wobbling, that design might generate problems in the future (however that offers better air circulation compared to flush mount too.)The candelabra base lighting kit is a problem too. I am not blaming this particular item for that since almost all new fans come with that funny design, but as many other reviewers pointed out, those bulbs are pretty hard to find and significantly more expensive than the regular ones. The fan comes with three bulbs but they consume 180 watts in total which is a huge and yet generate heat too, so I recommend changing those bulbs with energy efficient ones but those candelabra based CFL bulbs sold in amazon are pretty limited and expensive therefore I bought mine at walmart (3 X 14 watt covered coil CFL bulbs for $10) Those CFL bulbs (be careful about handling them due to mercury issue) stick out of the cover a little bit but yet look fine.In the end, for my 110 sq feet room, this fan produced light, cool air and style for a decent price. It works okay and makes no sound so I recommend this product anyone who needs something like thatUPDATE (10/14): 3 months of continuous use and still no problems and not much dust accumulation on top...Quiet and easy to install.I'm not sure where I should put this update...so doing it at the top.I purchased this fan over one year ago. When I installed it, it was really noisy at any speed. I discovered that when I turned the dimmer switch (which it operated off of) the noise subsided. I just now removed the dimmer switch and replaced it with a regular off/on switch...no noise at all!!! Hope it continues. If anything changes, I will update again. But right now I am very pleased. I don't know if I missed anything in the instructions saying 'not to install using a dimmer switch' ...I do not recall any such instructions. The manufacturer might want to consider doing that...This is the noisiest fan I have ever ordered. I do not recommend it at all!!! Save your money!!! See my update on this review, below.OK...I have had this fan for about six months now. I have run it on low during the winter when I use my wood stove--to move the air about. And it does a pretty good job...still noisy. Now, I must explain...the fan (with lights) is in my bedroom and is controlled by a dimmer switch that was there when there was only a ceiling light. I only just yesterday discovered that the dimmer switch has been turned down all the way. I turned the dimmer switch up all the way and pulled the chain to turn off the fan lights and the fan noise was greatly diminished. I think I can even sleep with the fan running now (it is directly over my bed).Asher just two short years, the light fixture stopped working.I'm a fan...of Hunter fans. I initially purchased Harbor Bay fans for my house. Over the years these Harbor Bays have not held up. I got maybe 5 years out of them before they started making noises. Bearings shot. Then, I swore I'd not go cheap again. Instead, I started purchasing Hunter fans to replace them. Quiet as can be. Holding up more than 8 years now, and still whisper quiet, in on bedroom. I have replaced other Harbor Bay fans with the Hunters and have been pleased.I found this fan on Amazon and purchased it. No better deal found at the big box stores, on a Hunter fan. I like this fan because it doesn't use weird specialized LED bulbs. It does use E12 bulbs, though. What came in the box was fine. I'd rather find a fan with standard bulb but that is hard to find anymore. I'm still pleased with the fan, as I can find normal E12 bulbs all over.I took down the old fan and replaced it with the new fan. The entire operation took about 90 minutes. There are a number of little tasks to do and I read everything. I'm experienced doing fans but this did seem fairly easy. Whisper quiet as I turned on the switch. I thought it would have a higher speed to it but it's fine how it is. If you like a jet engine fan that spins very fast, keep looking. This will do the trick, though.A gazillion parts but easy enough to assemble and install. Looks and functions well, bought another for the other bedroom. The fan came in many pieces not like my previous two, which I am happy with. The fan was what I ordered but the ligting housing could not be lined up with the screw holes. Had an expert to install it and he had to call for help, a one person job became a two person job. As stated, the screw holes did not match up to the holes provided. They had to drill new holes to get the screws in.After buying.4 Hunter fans and having problems now with 2 of them, I have to change my review. The lights have now stopped working on this one. It's not the bulbs, apperently it's the wiring harness. Hunter fans tells me to buy myself a new harness and offers no further help. They don't ship to Canada so this fan is going in the garbage after 2 years of use. Dissatisfied.Super quiet, great air exchange, good looking. Am thinking on getting more for other rooms I love this fan so much. Says 42" but more like 40"...regardless...great fan. I have in my (small) kitchen and works greatWe bought two of these Hunter fan/light combinations for two smaller rooms ( a home gym and a home office ) for cooling and heat distribution. They are attractive and efficient and a reasonable price. This fan is well made and looks gorgeous, two otions for fan blades either whit or distressed wood look, love it
